The Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton, bishop of the ELCA Northeastern Ohio Synod, was elected as the presiding bishop of the ELCA at the August 14 Churchwide Assembly in Pittsburgh, PA. She was elected on the fifth ballot; over 800 votes were cast; 600 in her favor. She will take office on November 1. She will preside over a church of 65 synods, over 9,500 congregations and 3.9 million baptized members.
