Alternative Each month this forty five minute worship gathering offers a variety of worship styles from Worship Band to Gospel style music to quiet and contemplative.

Church office hours are Monday through Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to Noon.

FIRST News

Sunday School Program Finale

The FLASH Christian Education program for 2011-12 concluded on Sunday, May 13. Teachers and assistants received gift bags and bouquets of flowers in appreciation for their committment to the Sunday School ministry. Classes will resume in September, 2012.

Work Begun on Home for Maquoketa Family

The Genaw family will soon have a new home, thanks to the Jackson County office of Thrivent Financial and the Dubuque-Jackson County chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Louise Genaw and her children, seen here with Thrivent agents Julie Yarolim and Kelvin Sohl are eager to get to work on the house; completion is projected for November. Thrivent Financial will pay 55 percent of the cost of the home through its Thrivent Builds partnership with Habitat for Humanity. This is the second residence in Maquoketa to be contructed by the Thrivent and Habitat for Humanity partnership.

Congratulations Kyle Flatness

The First Lutheran Senior Choir held a special graduation party on Sunday, May 6. The guest of honor was Kyle Flatness. In addition to his many other activities, Kyle has been singing in the Senior Choir for two years. He will graduate from Maquoketa High School this year. He plans to attend Grandview University in Des Moines and major in computer science. Kyle's parents are Lyle and Barb Flatness of Maquoketa. Congratulations Kyle and God's blessings!

Scholarship Available from First

Students who will be attending an ELCA college or univeristy this fall are eligible to receive a $500 scholarship from the First Lutheran scholarship Mission Fund. This scholarship can often be matched through EPIC funds. Contact the church office for application details.

Graduates Enjoy Brunch & Blankets

Twenty-one high school seniors attended the annual Senior Recognition Brunch at First Lutheran on Sunday, April 29. Each student received a unique quilt and a special blessing from the congregation. The quilts were handmade by First Lutheran Saturday Sewers to serve as a visible reminder of God's love which surrounds them. Parents, grandparents, quilters,"faith friends" and members of the Passing On Faith Team also enjoyed the hearty breakfast prepared by Steve Fishwild, and served by junior classmates.
